How It All Began
Antony & Johnson was founded in London in 2009 by two industry veterans who had grown disillusioned with the transactional nature of mainstream talent agencies. They believed — and still believe — that the best music comes from artists who feel supported, heard and free to take creative risks.
Starting with a handful of folk and contemporary classical artists, the agency quickly gained a reputation for thoughtful, ethical management that put the artist's long-term career ahead of short-term commercial gain.
"We're not in the business of manufacturing careers. We're in the business of protecting the conditions in which great art can happen."
— Antony R., Co-FounderA Decade of Growth
By 2015, Antony & Johnson had expanded its roster to include artists across chamber pop, jazz, world music and experimental electronica. The agency opened its second office in Amsterdam, giving it a stronger foothold in continental European festival circuits.
The agency has since placed music in over 200 screen productions and brokered partnerships with some of Europe's most respected independent labels. Every step of the way, the founding principle has remained unchanged: art first, commerce second.
Where We Are Now
Today, the agency represents more than 120 artists across 38 countries. A dedicated licensing division handles sync placements, while the events team produces around 500 shows and festivals appearances per year. But the culture remains stubbornly boutique — every client still has a named partner, not just an account manager.
